This translucent green specimen of world-famous moldavite glass from the Moldau Valley of the Czech Republic is a type of tektite, formed when a meteorite impact sent local rocks plus the meteorite into the atmosphere that melted as it rained back down through Earth's atmosphere. It looks opaque green-black when laying on a surface, but is translucent and paler yellow green when back-lit (see photographs).
