A classic example of ferroaxinite from Dauphine, France. Ferroaxinite (officially axinite-Fe) is a calcium-iron aluminosilicate mineral with formula Ca2Fe2+Al2BSi4O15OH. Its name derives from the axe-like shape of its crystals. It forms in low to high grade regionally metamorphosed rocks, contact metamorphic rocks, and in pegmatites.
