Mineralogy and Geology of Rose Quartz

Rose quartz is the pink-hued variant of regular quartz. Its physical properties are the same as clear quartz; click HERE for that information.

According to mindat.org, there are two types of rose quartz:

Massive rose quartz occurs in the quartz cores of pegmatites; it is typically cloudy to translucent. The cloudiness and the pink color derive from microscopic fibrous inclusions of a pink borosilicate mineral related to dumortierite . The pink color of this type of rose quartz is relatively stable in UV light and to moderately high temperatures.

Clear rose quartz that forms individual crystals is usually found in late-stage hydrothermal deposits overgrowing smoky quartz. The pink color derives from phosphorus in the crystal structure. The color of this type of rose quartz is highly sensitive to the UV rays in natural sunlight and will fade to clear in a short period of time.

Spiritual, Metaphysical and Healing Properties

According to crystal energy guru Melody, rose quartz is known as the “stone of gentle love,” bringing peace and calm, removing negativity, and restoring self-love. Rose quartz helps to balance yin-yang energy and align chakras. Rose quartz can have a rejuvenating effect on the emotions and body.
