Mineral formula: NaCl
Grouping: member of the Halite Group
Crystal system: isometric
Crystal habit: Normally cubic, rarely octahedral. Crystal faces often cavernous and stepped (hopper crystals). Massive. Also occurs as coarsely granular to compact.
Cleavage: perfect on {001}
Fracture: conchoidal
Color: clear, white, pink, blue and other shades
Streak: white
Luster: vitreous
Diaphaneity: transparent to translucent
Moh’s scale hardness: 2 ½
Specific gravity: 2.168
Named after: the Greek άλς, sea, for halites, later modified by J.D. Dana to halite.
Geological occurrence: most common in sedimentary evaporite deposits. Also found in fluid inclusions. As a fumarole product.
Spiritual, Metaphysical and Healing Properties
Halite can have major energetic impacts, partly because the human body contains lots of salt already, in blood, lymph and some tissues. Electrolyte such as salt are important for keeping bodies in balance so that all systems can functions. Crystalline halite can elevate and stabilize moods, freeing one to independently initiate new thoughts or projects.

Blue halite is said to stimulate psychic power, intuition, and to encourage adaptability.
