Geologic occurrence: This is the most abundant REE mineral, occurring in hydrothermal and primary igneous rocks such as granitic and alkali syenites and pegmatites, carbonatites, contact metamorphic deposits. It occurs rarely in detrital deposits. Often associated with allanite, cerite, tysonite, fluorite, and tornebohmite.
