A specimen of one of the world's most unusual types of petrified wood. From the Triassic Period (250 to 200 million years ago) Aqua Zarca Sandstone Member of the Chinle Formation, copper minerals (malachite, chalcocite, +/- azurite, chrysocolla) replaced the wood from (possibly) cycad trees. The copper minerals give the green and black coloration and a high density. From the Sierra Nacimiento, Sandoval County, New Mexico.
Small cabinet specimen: about 3.0" x 2.2" x 0.9" (77mm x 55mm x 22mm)
