Peridot

Peridot is the name for gemstone-quality olivine, a silicate mineral found most often in basalts with the chemical formula (Mg,Fe)₂SiO₄.  Most peridot is magnesium-rich olivine, also known as forsterite.

Peridot is the traditional birthstone for August.
