Choosing Minerals to work with
Since the release of Melody's book Love Is in the Earth, A Kaleidoscope of Crystals(the updated version in 1995) many, many other compilations of the metaphysical properties of minerals have been published. Many are excerpts from Melody's ground-breaking work. For each mineral, multiple energetic healing properties are listed. In Melody's work, she gathered reports from different individuals who worked with each mineral and summarized their findings, along with her own research.
So ... grab one of these compilations, look up your healing need, check what minerals are listed, and go to your favorite retailer and buy one ... except it's quite likely to be bravoite, datolite, matlockite (not in anyone's list of common rock-forming minerals), ruby, diamond, or some other rare, exotic or ridiculously expensive mineral!
Good thing there are other ways to choose minerals to work with. It's simple - look in a shop, or online store, and see what crystals speak to you, in your own price range.
Why does this work? Every single crystal is unique, just as each human is. Yes, for example, all quartz crystals are mostly SiO2, and have the same overall internal crystal form and symmetry, yet each one is unique. The external form of quartz crystals varies hugely, and every single crystal has “mistakes,” called defects, in its crystal structure. Every crystal can contain chemical “impurities,” some as part of the crystalline structure, some found in the “mistakes” in the crystal. Sort of like humans – a typical human has two legs, two arms, a torso and head, and a lot of internal organs that pretty much do the same thing, but the details, external form and energy vary a LOT.
What this means for energy work with crystals is that each individual will have their own, individual response to every individual mineral. If a particular mineral or crystal "speaks" to you – it brings a “spark of joy” (think Marie Kondo), a smile to your face, or you just can’t stop thinking about it – then chances are it’s a good one for you to work with. You don't even need to know why.
... The deposit of Shungite in Karelia was formed about 2 billion years ago and extends over 9,000 sq km ( 3,475 sq miles). The deposit has been estimated to contain more than 250 gigatonnes of carbon reserves. The deposit is found within a sequence of Palaeoproterozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks - the main accumulations are concentrated in 9 layers, ranging in thickness from 5 meters (16 ft) to 120 meters (400 ft) . The sequence is dated by a gabbro intrusion, which gives a date of 1980±27 Ma, and the underlying dolomites, which give an age of 2090±70 Ma 9 and demonstrates a significant difference between shungite & petroleum/coal (200-250 Ma). ...
